Infinity Air Purifier – Whole House Filter

With the Infinity Air Purifier there is no need to have multipul purifiers throughout your home.  You only need one.  As you can see from the chart below you can see that it is powerful and very effective.  It not only captures the germs but it also kills them giving them a very very slim chance at being airborne in your home or wherever it is installed.

There is more information below if you would like to know more about the Carrier Infinity Air Purifier.

Q: Why is germicidal capability important?
A: Just capturing pathogens on the filter (like typical systems doesn’t eliminate all the risks associated with poor air quality.  Dust, dead skin cells, and other matter collected on the filter provide nutrients on which trapped organisms cn grow and as a result, produce waste products which are then carried downstream into the living space.  Certain bacteria, for example, can release endotoxins to which many people are highly allergic.  They can irritate the skin, include respiratory problems, fever, and even shock.  In humid environments, mold can multiply and actually grow through a filter and live spores can be distributed through the home.

Q: How efficient is this unit’s filtration?
A: The Infinity Air Purifier is equivalent to a MERV 15. A MERV rating of 15 indicates the filter achieves 85-95% efficiency for the smallest particles tested.

Q: How long will the filter last?
A: Filter life varies form home to home, and is based on several factors.  Most homeowners find that the filter lasts for 8 to 12 months.

Q: How do I know what to change my filter?
A: If your purifier is used in conjunction with the Carrier Infinity Control, the control will notify you when it is time to change the filter.  Other thermostats may have a timer or reminders built in.

Q: What can happen if someone changes an ordinary inexpensive filter containing live pathogens:
A: The person changing the filter can be exposed to potential health risk For Example: 1) a person may come in contact with a contaminated surface containing live infection-causing pathogens and ; 2) Movement of the dirty filter can shake loose dust pathogens into the air which could then be inhaled.

Q: Are there and odor control benefits to the Infinity Air Purifier?
A: The Infinity Air Purifier is capable of capturing very small particles, down to 0.1 micron.  Odors associated with the presence of particles will be reduced.  If odor control is a concern, Carrier recommends installing a ventilator to bring in fresh air.

Q: What is the power consumption of the Purifier?
A: Approximately 18 watts.

Q:  Does the infinity air purifier make any sounds while operating?
A: No. Unlike traditional electronic air cleaners, the purifier creates no zapping noises.

Air Conditioning Unit Filters

Of course as with all things the more you spend on a filter the better quality it is.

(1) Month Filters

The least expensive filters which you can see right though (We like to tease that they are only rock catchers) will only block larger particles from getting to your unit. It is advised to change these filters monthly but you will probably notice that they do not get very dirty in only one months time.

With this simple filter you will need to have someone come clean your indoor coil more often.

Even your ductwork will need cleaning from time to time.

(1) Month Filter

This next filter you will not be able to see though, therefore it does trap smaller particles than the first filter. As you can see this one is pleated to create more surface area.

This one you will notice that it needs to be change more ofter than the first. This is because it does a better job at capturing the particles.

(3) Month Filter

This filter is very similar to the previous filter, however it has even more surface area. Therefor it will last longer, meaning you will not have to change it nearly as often.

Due to the thickness it does not fit most filter frames. A special filter rack is needed to hold it.

(1) Month Washable Filter
If cleaned properly these as capable as the pleated filters above. The advantage is that you don’t have to continue to buy new filters.

These are great for the people that like to clean and not purchase new all of the time.

Others like the convenience of just tossing the old ones out, this filter

Come back next week to learn about the best filter of them all.

Can a Dirty Filter Harm my Unit?

The filters are there to protect your unit and help clean the air.

If enough dirt accumulates on your filter or your indoor air coil, airflow will be restricted. This causes your unit to work a lot harder. As a result, the blower motor will use more energy to move air though the restricted filter, coil, or both.
When it becomes too restricted heat transfer will not take place properly. When heat transfer is hindered the refrigerant that carries the heat will not boil off to a gas; therefore, it returns to the compressor as a liquid. Compressors are not made to pump liquid. If a compressor pumps liquid, it will ruin the valves. Something as minor as not changing your filters regularly, can lead to very costly repairs.

If you have a one-month filter, then change your filter every time you pay your mortgage or credit card. On the other hand, your three-month filters should be changed every time you get an oil change on your car.

Come back next week to learn what filter is best for you.
